Armadillo

Margaritas-

A great little Tex-Mex tucked away in Kingston. Service and food are excellent, drinks are well done by seasoned barkeep. Order the Red Sangria! Food is very good with prices that won't drive you into bankruptcy. Can be crowded on any day due to popularity. No reservations so get there early and have a great time!

was one of a party of six and we all tasted everyones' dishes...Appetizers steamed clams with lime, fried calamari and beef queso's all were awesome. Fish taco's, pasta with chipolte cream sauce w/shrimp were to die for, the mac and cheese with poblano peppers was deliciously unique. This place is awesome, its been open for 28 years and the owner is much loved in the community.

I'm not sure who loves this place more -- us or our dachshund! While we linger over our margaritas on the patio, he slurps chicken-broth-flavored ice cubes, courtesy of the animal-loving proprietor. The food is as good as the service is warm and friendly.

Dining at Armadillo Grill was a very pleasant surprise ! The ingredients were fresh and inventively put together.

Mexican cuisine is one of my favorites, and this restaurant exceeds most others.

Good fish and pork dishes. Jalapeno stuffed shrimps are a must. Warm "family" atmosphere.

Margaritas not bad.

Shrimp stuffed jalapenos pronounce flavor and uniqueness.

The Best Burger in Kingston...

...perhaps in the Tri-State area. I need to take my camera with me the next time I go,

Since you won't believe what I am about to write... My favorite burger is the cheeseburger at the Armadillo Bar and Grill.

Large, hand formed patty, two kinds of cheese, perfect soft toasted bun, steak fries, and made the way you like it

(I prefer medium rare). If you like it spicy, you can have it with some jalapeno mayonnaise

(which is a nice dipping sauce for the fries, too.) Great service, nice atmosphere. I'm lucky that I live so close.

Despite the Armadillo being a Tex-Mex restaurant, I find myself having the burger nine times out of ten,

since there is nothing to compare within a hundred miles (yes, I have been to Donovans and Shake Shack and Burger Joint).

I first came here about 6 years ago when I was still in high school and was visiting a friend who went to college nearby. I wound up attending the same college about two years later and remembered the incredibility of this restaurant, and henceforth have been going as much as I can. Even now that I have graduated and live in Queens, anytime I am anywhere remotely close  to Kingston, I manage to get to this restaurant . I was staying at the Hudson Valley Spa and Resort about a  month ago and drove over an hour one way just to go here.

This is a dining experience that is excellent in every respect. Absolutely astounding food, great owner and staff (my favorite is the attentive bus boy known as "Chippies" for always offering people more of the fresh baked, greasy tortilla delights for which he has coined the term)  , strikingly bold decor, and a  crowd of returning customers, familiar with each other from coming here so frequently.

One of the more specific reasons to go here is for an appetizer they call queso fondue. This dish is not your average melted cheese, but the most fresh, smooth, pure melted cheese dip seasoned with fresh red and green peppers and served with the delicious chippies. My mouth just watered as I described it!

Really, I can go on and on about this place. But I know no one would ever finish reading all the endless amounts of good things I could say.

Hands down best Mexican food and Mexican food experience I have had!

The BEST local scene for years! Huge selection of tequilas! ALWAYS order the Tuna (rare) when they have it! The salsas they serve with the chips are fresh and you will go thru them fast! Merle is the perfect hostess and mother of the city! Thursday nights can get noisy because of the frozen Margarita special, (but who drinks those when you have all the wonderful tequilas) the best!

As a Californian who is used to good Mexican food I had almost given up on finding good Mexican food in NY.

However Armadillo's is an excellent Mexican food restaurant. They have an excellent variety of margaritas and

excellent food with good size portions!

Oh yeah, the ambience is very charming and inviting, and the service is great!
